Emir of Kano, Alhaji
Mohhamed Sanusi 11 arriving State House in Abuja,

A popular dictum says there is “No permanent enemy, no permanent friend, but
permanent interests'. This adage seems to have come into play in the otherwise
frosty relationship between President Goodluck Jonathan and the former CBN
governor Alhaji Lamido Sanusi.
Sanusi and Jonathan have been at loggerheads, after
the former CBN overseer blew the whistle on the unremitted $20bn at the state
oil corporation, the NNPC.

While tempers flayed among the actors,
Sanusi was relieved of his exalted post at the apex bank. He subsequently filed a suit against
the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police at
the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, challenging his suspension as the CBN
governor.
While their rift waged on, Sanusi was
appointed the Emir of Kano after the former Emir, Ado Bayero, passed away.
Following his appointment, there was a
report that the government was making plans to arrest him. However, the plaintiff, by a
notice of discontinuance, dated July 1, 2014 and filed same day, discontinued
the suit against all the defendants in the matter.
The emir’s visit to Aso Rock on Thursday, 30 October
2014 would be his second to the seat of power since he assumed authority as the
Emir of Kano. On Wednesday July 22, 2014, Alhaji Lamido paid a visit
to the Presidential Villa when Northern Traditional Rulers led by the Sultan of
Sokoto went to break Ramadan fast with the President at the State House Abuja.
The powers that be definitely know how to settle their
rifts and be friends again. A lesson for the blind followers who would rather
kill and maim for their godfathers while they wallow in penury.
